Usher in Spring with an early May Day celebration at Terhune Orchards
A new art show, “Dos Amigos paintings by Jim Buchanan and Bill Griffith will open on Sat. April 29th from 2-4 p.m. in the winery tasting room located in a 200 year old red barn. (Gallery is open Fridays-Sundays 12 noon-5pm).
May Day celebrates spring with dancing, singing and baked goods. The Millstone River Morris Dancers of Princeton will be at Terhune Orchards on Sun., April 30. From 1-4 pm. They dance Cotswold Morris, an English folk dance tradition originally from villages in the Cotswold hills of England. Morris dancing is historically done during May Day celebrations in Great Britain.
Singer songwriter, Michaela McClain will be our musical guest on April 30 for our Spring Music Series held in the Wine Barn and courtyard. Each Sunday in April and May, from 1:00pm-4:00pm, enjoy local musicians ranging from country, bluegrass and jazz.
“We always brought May baskets to neighbors to celebrate May Day. We would bring a basket of flowers, cookies or candy and leave them on the front step of people we admired or had a crush on but we would run away before they found the gift. If we were discovered, part of the tradition was to receive a kiss or a hug.,” Pam Mount fondly remembers.
To keep this sweet old fashioned tradition going Terhune Orchards bakery will have plenty of flowers and sweet treats to share over the weekend – cookies, tea breads, pies, cider donuts and apple crisps. A bunch of asparagus freshly harvested from the field would also be a welcome gift of spring.
